Summary:

A graduate of Lakeland HS, Vin holds a BS degree from Springfield College in Massachusetts and an MS from Pace University in NY.  He has been a Physical Education teacher in the Brewster School District since 1990. 

Coach Vin has an extensive coaching resume as he enters his 21st year as a Varsity lacrosse coach.  Vin has 99 wins overall as a head coach.  He started the lacrosse program at Hendrick Hudson HS where he was a Varsity coach for 9 years.  He was voted ‘Coach of the Year’ in three of his first five years there.  From there he became an assistant coach at Brewster HS for 3 years serving as the offensive coordinator in 1999 and 2000 and then as the defensive coordinator in 2001.  In 1999 Brewster reached the state semifinals while in 2000, they were Sectional Champions.  Vin then took over as head coach for two years at Greenwich HS leading his team to the semifinals.   His last coaching position was as defensive coordinator at John Jay where he helped the team to a 105-28 record.  He also helped them reach 6 straight Sectional finals and where they won 4 in a row.  In 2007 he helped them beat undefeated Huntington who was 63-0 where they made it to the New York State Championship game.  In addition, Vin also coached the Empire State Games team for ten years with two years as head coach.  In 2000 he was head coach of the Silver Medal Champion team.  In 2006, Vin was named the Section One assistant coach of the year.

Besides coaching lacrosse, Vin coached football since 1989-1996.  He started at Hendrick Hudson HS as Varsity assistant coach for three years.  Then he became a Varsity assistant coach at Brewster HS in 1997 where his Brewster teams were Sectional Champs four times; Regional Champions three times; State semifinalist two times and competed in the NY state championship finals twice.

Summary:

  Nick Savastano is a Physical Education teacher at John Jay High School.  Coach Sav was  the John Jay Varsity Men’s Lacrosse coach for the past 10 years.  His teams has won four sectional titles in both Class B and Class A.  In 2006 he was named Section 1 Coach of the Year. Coach Savastano compiled a career mark of 148-56 at John Jay. His teams won Section I titles from 2005 through 2008. Perhaps his best team – and, arguably one of the top teams ever in Section I, was his 2007 squad that went 21-3 and won the third of his four successive sectional crowns. In the state Class B semifinals that year, John Jay faced a Huntington team that was ranked number one in the country, riding a 63-game winning streak and John Jay Won 11-10 in double overtime sending them on to there first ever state championship. Savastano has produced 14 All American in the past ten years.

Coach Savastano is a graduate of Springfield College where he was an All-American midfielder for the 1994 Division II National Champion team.  Prior to that, he played lacrosse at Lakeland High School and was a midfielder for the 1989 Empire State Games Hudson Valley lacrosse team.  He is actively involved in the lacrosse community.  In 2001 he was the head coach for the Empire State Games Hudson Valley lacrosse team.  Before John Jay he was the head lacrosse coach for White Plains High School and South Hadley High School in Massachusetts.  Coach Savastano takes pride in leading his team with discipline and hard work. He strongly believes sports provide students with life lessons and experience.  In Coach Savastano’s ten years, he has sent 27 kids to play at Division I colleges and numerous others at Division II and III schools. Savastano has produced 14 All American in the past ten years.You will see coach Sav’s wife Lisa and two kids, Nicholas Jr., 10, and 7 year old Dominic, on the sidelines this season.
